1988 to the present.
He has served in both the Legislative Branch (MP) and the Executive Branch (Cabinet Minister) during his tenure as the peoples representative.
WHAT'S GOING ON IN PARLIAMENT
The 39th Parliament met for the first time on Monday, April 3, 2006. The first item of business was the election of the Speaker of the House of Commons. Peter Milliken representing the electoral district of Kingston and the Islands, was elected Speaker.
Her Excellency the Governor General opened the First Session of the 39th Parliament on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 with the Speech from the Throne in the Senate Chamber. The text of the Throne Speech is available in the Senate and House of Commons Debates. The Debates will be posted on the Web site by the following morning and can be found under Chamber Business.
Governments in democracies are elected by the passengers to steer the ship of the nation. They are expected to hold it on course, to arrange for a prosperous voyage, and to be prepared to be thrown overboard if they fail in either duty.
